  • Ocean Shores, Iron Springs Pier 04, 2010-08-03

I’ve taken a few pictures from the beach at Iron Springs (a hotel) near Ocean Beaches. There is an old pier there with some decrepit wood.

  • A $35 bicycle is greener than a $35,000 hybrid

This is a really pertinent point about green thinking in America: lets spend more money to be green. Those subsidies could have been put to funding Bike to School programs for children who can’t even afford new bicycles. http://politics.slashdot.org/story/10/08/01/2056228/Electric-Car-Subsidies-As-Handouts-For-the-Rich

  • Arrest Record Likely for Children who Bicycle? (Cyclelicious)

Unfortunately, there is no better time to demonstrate, and teach, good bicycling behavior. I was totally unaware that the criminal justice system in many cities is extending criminal traffic law to bicycle infractions of minors. Once you have an arrest record, that will never leave you. Worse, this can be applied in a oligarchical manner, not being enforced…

  • Car-free with Four Kids! (Shareable.net)

This is an inspiring article about a family that decided to go car-free in 1994. Amazing to think that the average american spends $8,000/year on- and 84 minutes a day in their car. via Shareable: Car-free with Four Kids!.

  • Pollution v. Exercise: Cycle Commuting a Net Plus

This is actually two really intuitive truths: the more you exercise the longer you live, (even if there’s car exhaust in front of you)–yet the more people commute on bicycle–the LESS CAR EXHAUST! Duh! City Cycling Seems to Have More Upsides Than Down: MedlinePlus.

  • Looking forward to upgrading my #bike saddle rack

I just got an Ibera rack with lower mounting bars. Hopefully I’ll notice improved handling with a slightly lower center of gravity. I also mounted extra waterbottle clips on my both my bikes, some pretty metal water bottles to go with them.

  • First 20 mile ride

Beautiful morning, not too windy, not too hot. Went thru Squalicum, thru the BTC parking lot to get to Marine Drive, passed a pack of retirees on my way to Ferndale Road, cross the Nooksack and down Hovander to Smith to Aldrich to Northwest, across the overpass and down Maplewood. I’m guessing it was about…
