Box My Bike? Whuutchatalkinbout? #bike
Apparently, Portland is going to adopt “bike boxes” in busy intersections. These are setback to the limit-lines painted in intersections where cyclists are allow to land ahead of cars–and right-on-red turns are prohibited! Here’s a picture from the article: These bike boxes will not obviate the need for cyclists to learn to claim the lane…

SpinCycle Spotted in Bellingham!
I wish I took a picture! We were at the Procession of the Species Parade celebration and a gray haired woman rolled up on a lustrous purple tadpole-recumbent trike. My hand flashed out and I pronounced, “Now, that! …is the bike I’ve been talking about! Don’t you want that, sweetie?” The pilot was so impressed…

Lightfoot Cycles: Smoothie
At LinuxFest Northwest I met an avid bicyclist: Victor Odlivak. He pointed out a northwest recumbent bicycle manufacturer named Lightfoot Cycles. Victor sent me a link to their Smoothie model. I am impressed by the features on this recumbent–it has a BionX power assist and a bench seat. This would appeal to riders that have…

Bike Route, Hampton – BTC 1.9 mi #lfnw
I’ve ridden this route four times this weekend and it’s not unpleasant. North along Bennet is uphill, but that’s good for us :-) Making zooming down to BTC that much easier! A fun variation on this would be to stop by Squalicum beach and bike up the trail that leads to the BTC parking lot.

Busted a Front Shifter Cable

Transition Whatcom Saturday, Quick Insights
We the family went to the Transition Whatcom event at Bellingham High and it was pretty neat. The high school had bicycles locked up against every tree and every light post, plus a field in the front courtyard with scrap-built wooden bicycle stands! Inside the door was an electric bicycle dealer booth, followed by a…

Year of Bike Commuting Ends With Gasoline
I’ve braved the rain, snow and many a windy day on my bicycle. I’ve towed trailers, filled my panniers, and fixed my flats. This afternoon, I toted books to the library and went to the hardware store, and finally–went and purchased a 1-1/2 gallons of gasoline at a Chevron while on my bicycle. The gas…

One Year of Carless Computing!
Not an April Fools joke — I’ve accomplished my first year of bicycle computing! I’ve only driven to work on two occasions for after-hours calls. The odometer readings on my bicycles this year are 1412 miles and 564 miles. I bought the latter odometer in December, so that’s 564 miles in 4 months. I’d confidently…

Twelve Mile Route on Saturday?
This is a 12 mile route that I’ve wanted to try. Maybe I’ll try this on Saturday.
